Kimberley announces a significant Industry first: a di-electric under-mattress membrane heater.

Di-electric Membrane Heater

This technology was developed and is patented in Sweden for heated car seats for Volvo after the traditional electric wire seats caused a fire. The technology is patented and Kimberley is the sole importer into Australia. It has these special features:

  • This heater will eliminate condensation and will warm the mattress for cooool evenings.
  • It is chosen as it is low voltage (12V) and completely safe
  • it cannot over-heat as the dielectric membrane "switches off" the higher the temperature. In our overnight trial in a Karavan, the maximum temperature under the mattress was a toasty 40 degrees C. It just kept that temperature all night long!
The heat stays trapped in the mattress air pockets and nicely insulates the sleeper.
Above the mattress the temperature was much cooler and closer to body temperature.
  • it is water proof (feels like a thick soft plastic)
  • It is placed UNDER the mattress on top of the bed base.
  • It will keep the mattress dry.

  • The power consumption is approx 1.2 Amp at 12.5V per person.
  • It would typically be operated for 2-3 hours prior to or at bed time. This would consume 6Ah of battery capacity.
If left on all night (8 hours) for both people, the consumption would be 19Ah
  • There are 2 individual switched controllers/timers so "his" and "hers" can be individual.

The Heater will be released for Jan 2009 and will be priced at $370 including the 2 individual controllers.

You will need at least 140Ah of battery capacity and a smart charger.

It will be available to existing Kimberley Owners directly from the factory. It is not available to non-Kimberley Products

There will be a price rise for selected options in the Kamper Range.
There has been a recent increase in imported parts costs and those items affected by the petroleum price.
This will increase the price of the Platinum Model by $2,230 to $48,990.

We are going to hold the current price for the Kamper Base Model and SportsRV as long as we can and expect these prices to rise early in the New Year. When this increases, the Platinum Model will rise again but we are planning to hold the option prices that are increased now for 12 months.

3. Announcing the new KWIK Awning for 2008

THIS IS RETROFITABLE TO ALL KIMBERLEY KAMPERS FROM 2002 onwards

2m wide x 6.7m long (for older models 6.3mLong)

The principles are:

Stays Zipped onto Kamper all the time.

The 2 end triangular corners fold under the awning roof and Velcro up underneath. In this configuration, the awning is a parallelogram shape.

There are 2 poles that are overhead bars which “push” the awning out with web tabs sewn onto the awning to receive the small post of the pole. These roof poles are supported by J clamps and vertical 45 degree (approx) poles that clip onto the kamper body (we are using the over centre catch base piece also used to close the camper. Because the awning cant be erected with a closed camper there is no conflict of use.

To adjust the awning, the vertical bars are pushed out further. The awning has a scalloped edge.

When you need more cover and/ or the wind picks up, the 2 end sections are pulled away from Velcro and poles are used in the usual way.

When we tested this at 13.5knot (25km/hr) winds, it was fine. But if the wind went over say 20 knots, you would have to use the end poles.

What is clever:

For sun/dew protection just use it with no poles

For stronger wind or more coverage, pull out and use 1 or 2 poles.

For more Kitchen Protection without having to put up walls: just lower the corner at the kitchen end to form a triangular wind break!

Easy access into Kamper without running into poles and pegs on side.

It is approx 6.7m long and 2 m wide

Note 2 poles are still required for front awning over Gullwing- we are working on a system of onnecting these to the kamper so no pegs but in high wind you have to peg out!
