Quality Testing
We use multiple Design Scenarios such as material, restraints, loads, mesh size, contact resistance, and geometric dimension as parameters or parametric equations. Parameters are defined at the model level and can be used in various studies.
We have calculated the numbers of oscillations of the suspension at road speed and the fatigue stress raisers caused by hitting a hidden pothole on the Gibb River Road at road speed.
For our suspension, we have done finite element analysis, we have suspended a camera over the suspension at the back of the Camper when travelling over corrugations and played back the video in slow motion to actually see what happens, and we do a crack inspection using fluorescent dye. The result is that our suspensions are the best in the industry and we can honestly say that we have had no reports of Kimberley Kampers with suspension faults.
Engineers Note:
We have had damaged suspensions from tyres blowing out and in one case in 2003, a KK owner did not realize the tyre had blown on his Cape York trip. He dragged the KK some distance before the magnesium wheel exploded and the KK was on the stub axle on one side. We shipped a new set of suspension swing arm bolts to the closest service station at Archer River and he was back on his way.
We pride ourselves in our service and customer assistance and the quality of our design and materialials.
Designs ares tested with a working prototype and field tested. We use cameras and video technology to videotape the Camper and its travel on difficult roads.
We even travel with breakable goods in key positions in the Camper to practically see the results.
The dustproofness of our Campers throughout is tested and documented. For the Gullwing box with the ventilation system, we test this by turning on the ventilation system and then using our spray guns loaded with fine baby talcum powder to spray the fine powder around alll the doors seals and the ventilation inlet area – no dust (or powder) penetration.
The waterproofness of our canvas is excellent. We build all our canvas on site at the factory. We use only Australian made and proofed canvas. It is tested to 750mm hydrostatic water test. The manufacturer tests every run of canvas we buy (we have a special colour and are the only buyer that insists on a unique test for every roll un of canvas). We also do a much tougher cone test which is simple and involves taking a 400mm square piece of canvas and folding it into a cone around its center then pouring in 500ml of water. If more then 0.5ml of water (very small drop) seeps through after 24 hours, it has failed the test.
The energy consumption, capacity of batteries and even the temperature rise in the batteries when charging has been tested and documented.
