AGM batteries charge faster and more deeply from standard vehicle systems. They can comfortably charge from 50% to 90% capacity in 2-3 hours even for the 210Ah size providing the alternator capacity is there.

To get maximum energy efficiency and life out of these batteries they operate best when charged with a voltage of 14V+ at the batteries.

There are 2 things you need to do with your vehicle to be assured of this:

1. Dual or triple battery isolation. Install a battery isolation/charging system. This not only isolates ignition system spikes on the batteries in the Campers, but will get the charge voltage to the correct level. Kimberley Kampers recommends the Rotronics system which has been field tested with Kimberley Kampers large battery systems with outstanding results. However, alternative systems using solenoids may work provide the voltage level at the Campers can reach at least 14V and the batteries are not "commoned" with the Vehicles batteries.

2. Install a decent charge cable from the vehicle to the plug. We use Auto 6mm (5mm 2 ) cable for the standard charging circuit with 70Ah batteries. This will run 30amps of charge current from the trailer plug to the vehicle to the batteries with the return earth cable as well. With 210Ah batteries we use a 8mm charge cable to the plug with the option of a 50A "Andersen" Plugs.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE VEHICLE CHARGE WIRE TO THE PLUG IS AT LEAST AUTO CABLE SIZE 6mm and 5mm 2 . WHEN AN ANDERSEN PLUG IS USED THE CHARGE WIRE SHOULD BE 8mm AUTO CABLE SIZE.

This is a large 2 connector foolproof plug that is positioned in the front of the trailer at the Treg hitch. It has the advantages of taking a higher current flow with less voltage drop and is lower maintenance. It is also a convenient connection point for high charge Chrisite "Battery Chargers". It is NOT used for conventional generators.
