Energy Charging from a generator

A generator is a reliable source of power. However, be aware of these issues:

- Most National parks ban the use of generators

- The generator is noisy

As you would be well aware, there has been an explosion of portable generators onto the market these past few years, and the quality of many of these are not all that crash hot.  We like to run a few very simple rules when using with battery chargers (lets face it, these are the most commonly run devices of any portable generator in a camper trailer set up):

We don’t cover Generator damage under warranty, and the sad thing is that it does happen – (there is no such thing as “Generator Proof” which is a term bandied around from time to time).  The best solution is for customers to be “Generator Savy”.

We have used the Hondas and recommend it. We have not used the Kipor, but a lot of customers have and have had no difficulty.

These small 1KVA Generators can run in “econo” mode for only a couple of hours and reasonably charge the batteries. With the 10A battery charger fitted, there is 120Watt-hours going into the battery system per hour.

Do NOT use the DC outlet on these generators for charging as there is no regulator and they can overcharge the batteries
